DIY IN OVERDRIVE!

Updated: Apr 25, 2023

"Do what you can, with what you have and do it now!"

This quote says it all!

For over a month I have been continuously working on making our little farmhouse cottage more and more like home.

I have always wanted to try my hand at some concrete work but never knew where to start. I was also a little fearful of the whole process . . . if the truth be told.

We had worn a path in the grass from the driveway to the back porch and I thought a cobblestone pathway would look so much more appealing. So I set to work and did some research on where to start. I also called my Dad, who is a master craftsman in this area to get his advice and knowledge.

The first step was laying out the pathway with spray paint for a guide. I then removed all of the grass and did my best to make the ground level. I rounded up stones and bricks that the previous owner had left, plus some rocks from our old farmhouse.

Once I had determined that I had enough rocks and bricks I was ready to lay a concrete base.

I went to my local @homedepot store and bought Quikrete.

These come in 50 lb. bags, so I knew I would be in for a great workout in the days ahead.

I mixed the concrete by hand in a wheelbarrow and began pouring it on the pathway. I then placed the stones and bricks in the wet concrete, and allowed this mixture to dry overnight.

Once that step was complete we were ready to put mortar between the rocks and bricks.

The mortar that I used was also purchased @homedepot.

I had a lot of space between my rocks so I used a shovel to scoop the mortar in between. I also used my hands and a putty knife to level it out and make sure all the spaces were filled in.

After a few days of mixing and pouring I finally finished my DIY cobblestone pathway!

A few take aways from this project . . .

I'm crazy! LOL! Y'all already knew that!!

You will use muscles you didn't even know you had!

Start with small sections when doing the concrete and mortar step.

Give yourself grace and look at it like a learning process.

Don't be afraid!!! Fear is a liar!!

I am not a professional and I might have done it all wrong but I'm tickled with my new walkway!!

I hope this encourages you to tackle a project that you have been wanting to do!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!

Stay tuned for more DIY's all spring and summer long!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Drop me a comment and let me know a project you are tackling this season!!!

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6
